Energy, oil and gas

AI for oil and gas operators, midstream and oilfield services

Vantage Systems builds artificial intelligence (AI) systems for upstream and midstream operators, oilfield service companies and industrial energy users. We predict failures in pumps, compressors and other rotating equipment from the data already in your historians and control systems, give field leadership one operations view, and build agents that read tender packages and contractor paperwork.

Key facts

Who it is for
Operators and service companies running fleets of rotating equipment across many remote sites.
Integrates with
Process historians, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), condition monitoring tools and the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Typical first phase
One equipment class, such as gas compressors at a set of stations, modeled from existing tags.
Where it runs
Operators in the United States and the Gulf, with client data kept in the region agreed with you.

Three problems we hear from energy, oil and gas operators

  • Compressor trips arrive without warning

A compressor or transfer pump trips, throughput drops and a crew drives hours to a remote station to find out why. The data that might have warned you was in the historian all along, but nobody had time to watch every tag.

  • Maintenance runs on the calendar, not on condition

Overhauls happen on run-hour intervals whether the machine needs them or not. Healthy units get opened up while the unit that is actually degrading waits for its slot.

  • Field data and the office do not meet

Production, downtime, work orders and contractor hours live in separate systems and daily spreadsheets. The morning call starts with people reading numbers aloud instead of deciding what to do about them.

Can we predict pump and compressor failures from historian data alone?

Often, for the failure modes that show up in process data. Discharge pressure, suction pressure, flow, temperatures, motor current and run status, already logged in the historian, reveal fouling, valve problems, seal wear and loss of efficiency well before a trip. Our predictive maintenance for oil and gas work starts from those tags.

Bearing and alignment faults are different. They need vibration data, and full vibration waveforms usually live in a separate condition monitoring system rather than the historian, so part of discovery is finding out what you already collect and where the gaps are.

Where should an energy operator start with AI?

Start with the equipment class whose failures cost the most in lost throughput or callouts, and that has enough history to learn from. That is usually compression or a pump fleet. Modeling one class well beats spreading thin alerts across every asset on site.

Second comes one field operations view. An operational dashboard combining production, downtime, open work orders and contractor activity gives the morning meeting one set of numbers, and it needs the same clean data infrastructure the maintenance models use.

  • Pick the asset class with the most expensive failures and the longest history.
  • Confirm tag quality and sampling rates before promising any model.
  • Route predictions into the maintenance system planners already use.

What we build for energy, oil and gas

  • Rotating equipment health models

Condition scores and failure predictions for centrifugal pumps, reciprocating and screw compressors, and their drivers.

  • Historian and control data pipeline

A feed out of historians and SCADA into a clean store, with the path and the tags it carries designed together with your control systems team.

  • Field operations dashboard

Production, downtime, work order backlog and contractor hours by site and area, refreshed through the day.

  • Tender and contract agent

For service companies bidding to operators such as Saudi Aramco, an agent that reads every tender file and lists what a compliant bid needs.

  • Work order hand-off

Predictions that open a work order in the maintenance system with the evidence attached, so planners act inside their normal process.

How an engagement works

  1. Map the assets and the tags

We review failure history, maintenance records and historian tags for the target equipment class, with your reliability engineers.

  2. Agree one asset class and a fixed price

The first phase covers one class at a defined set of sites, with a fixed scope agreed with operations and control systems.

  3. Backtest against past failures

Models are replayed over historical data and must catch failures you already recorded before going live.

  4. Run in production and extend

Alerts flow into your maintenance process, we monitor and retrain the models, and further equipment classes follow.

Frequently asked questions

Do you connect directly to our control network?

Only through a path your control systems team designs. Which system the data comes from, what it carries and where it crosses your network segmentation are agreed with that team during discovery, before anything is built.

What if our historian data is patchy?

We measure it first. Gaps, frozen tags and heavy compression are common, and discovery tells you honestly whether there is enough signal or whether a few added sensors come first.

Do you cover electric submersible pumps and artificial lift?

Possibly, depending on the data your lift controllers record. We assess each fleet in discovery and only commit to failure modes the data can actually see.

Can you work at sites in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf?

Yes. Saudi Arabia is our home base in the Gulf, and our Saudi Arabia page covers the local data rules operators there work under.

Is this only for large operators?

No. Mid-size operators and service companies with a meaningful fleet of compressors or pumps often benefit most, because they lack a dedicated reliability analytics team.

How do alerts reach the field?

Through the maintenance system and the channels crews already use. Each alert names the asset, the likely failure mode and the evidence, so a technician knows what to bring.
